Dichroic glass is a multilayer coating placed on glass using a highly technical vacuum deposition process. Quartz crystal and metal oxides are vaporized with an electron-beam gun in an airless vacuum chamber. The resulting vapors attach to the glass in a crystal structure. Once the layer attaches to the glass surface, the piece is then laser etched into any design.
